I would like to have iPads in the classroom which will allow me to have daily technology centers. I will engage students in peer collaboration, develop digital citizenship, engage families and extend social emotional learning with a digital experience.
With the iPads we will use various online sites to integrate technology across all subjects. For example, a current project we are working on involves designing alternative energy houses, students will create a 2D or 3D house model, which will show their understanding of types of alternate energy, basic electrical circuits and also integrate art standards. Once the houses are designed, students will create a video reflection and give a digital tour. The opportunity to create electronic work will allow for better family engagement as students can work on their class projects at home with families and also share completed work.
Another important component of my technology integration is the social-emotional piece. Students will be learning digital citizenship, a very important skill set for kids to have in our ever-evolving tech world. We will model positive peer responses, appropriate social media use, and develop a series of video responses to Second Step curriculum prompts, providing students with the opportunity to view peers making good choices, discussing how to be a role model, how they deal with stress, or what making good choices looks like to a fifth grader.
