Our school has a uniform policy in place to help establish a sense of equality and safety among students. As we share the building with a high school, our uniforms allow us to better identify our middle school students and ensure they are safe.
Many of our students lack access to basic necessities such as clean clothes or hygiene products. Recently, we have had several students express concerns about not being able to afford the uniform polo shirt, which costs $11. In an effort to ease the financial burden on families, we began offering loaner uniforms which students can wear on top of their clothes during the day and return before dismissal. The loaners are a hit! However, they are getting so much use, that sending them to the local laundromat does not have a quick enough turnaround time; not to mention it's utilizing funds that could be delegated to a more crucial area in need.
I am a school guidance counselor asking for donations to help us purchase a washer and dryer that will be used to provide clean uniforms to students.
Having a washer and dryer at our school would support families who are unable to purchase uniforms and ensure students are prepared for school and ready to learn in fresh, clean uniforms!
