During independent work times, I have students laying on the carpet or sitting on our wicker couch or chair. I want students to feel comfortable so that they can be engaged in learning. Right now, I only have enough spots for eight students but in time I would like every student to have a comfortable choice.
I recently had a donation for our classroom from a student's grandmother in memory of his "Gramps." I spent a lot of time considering the best way to honor his grandpa and decided to purchase a new seating option in his memory. That is when I decided that this may be a great way to honor special people in my students' lives.
As donations come in, I ask that those who donate do so in memory of someone special and I will add a patch to the seat. Seeing my students sitting in comfortable seats and knowing that it is in memory of someone who brought comfort to them shows how a community embraces my young learners.
