Our teenagers are processing many emotions every day. They are experiencing puberty, brain development, adolescence, heartbreak, and identity formation at a constant rate. They are gaining autonomy and individuality, they are taking risks and testing limits, and they are constantly feeling misunderstood.
My students need tools to help process their experiences and emotions in healthy and safe ways, in order to have productive academic experiences in the classroom. The materials I am requesting work to nurture their kinesthetic and emotional processing needs as they learn to cope and build resiliency in their lives. Through art, talk therapy, relaxation techniques, and meditation, students are able to ground themselves in efforts to combat the anxiety and stress that is inevitable in their lives. When students use these tools, they become stronger versions of themselves and feel heightened confidence, in and outside of the classroom.
