These supplies will allow my students to do try their hand at the Japanese art of Kintsugi. They need brushes, sand molds, sponges, bottles, etc.). Doing Kintsugi in class will allow students to create something meaningful, and learn a powerful metaphor about healing. Kintsugi is part of the Japanese aesthetic known as wabi-sabi, which finds beauty, wisdom, and solace in the broken, worn, or tattered. In this time when students are experiencing so much trouble, heartache, loneliness, and loss, the study of a tradition that finds beauty from the ashes and strength in healing will benefit the students in my classroom.
