My students live in high-poverty district and have not travelled much. This trip will allow them to see American History at Fort Michilimackinac and on Mackinac Island. Most of them have not traveled more than 100 miles from home, and only read about history. This will give them an opportunity to experience history - seeing, touching and walking on the sites. They will go on a boat through the locks at Sault. Ste. Marie, walk through the Fort, and see the historic town of Mackinac Island. They will interact with re-enactors, and be able to see and touch historic sites and artifacts.
