Flexible seating allows for students to choose where they work and with whom they work with. It can give students the capabilities to change their location and positions as needed. Having alternative seating in the classroom encourages students to make a choice of what seating arrangement is best suited to their needs. As teachers, we are taught to teach students in ways that relate to them. How can we expect growth when students are spending too much time tipping back on chairs and not enough time on the specific topic at hand?
By giving choices, I am helping students learn to make appropriate choices to help make them successful in the classroom environment. The goal is to help reduce the amount of behavior challenges that can occur in the classroom. By offering alternative seating, I would be encouraging higher engagement from all students, which can lead to further success in the future.
