Flexible seating allows students to make a choice about their learning environment. Currently, in my classroom during independent work, students can choose where they want to work. Students have several options, standing at their desks, lying on the carpet, working on the floor with a clipboard, or sitting a different table. When a student is comfortable in their environment, they are more engaged in learning. An uncomfortable student is a distracted student. With your support, my students will be able to pick the seat style that works best for them, allowing them to be more focused and productive in class. When students have the opportunity of choice in the classroom, they feel more empowered and in control of their learning.
My first graders are an energetic group! Children need to be able to move around. With the use of wobble seats, balance discs, and soft seats, students will have the ability not only to choose their preferred seating, but they will also be able to get their wiggles out as they learn. Movement creates an increased flow of oxygen to the brain, keeping them alert throughout the day. The items that I have selected for my classroom will give my students more comfortable seating options during independent work.
