My students are very diverse and have very diverse needs. My students speak Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Hindi, Punjabi, Mixteco, Arabic, and English. It is important that they see book characters who are just as diverse as they are. Books that are in Spanish and English will help my students who speak Spanish by giving them something familiar to read. These books will also help my students become more engaged in their reading. When students see books with characters like themselves, they become more engaged. They also feel more included in our classroom community. It is important to me, as their teacher, to provide books that support them in all of their needs.
