They love science. We used them at the Dallas ISD environmental center and they were so engaged, and excited. They were able to see pollen on plants, and close ups of plants. They also enjoyed the illustrations they drew in their science journals. My third graders, as all third graders are, like to explore with hands-on materials. We are a school of about 54% free and reduced lunch. Our ethnicity population is approximately 33% Black American, 33% Anglos, 33% Hispanic, with a very small population of Asian Americans.
A many of our children have little or no experience with outside school, hands-on experiences, such as the use of microscopes. Seeing our natural world "close up" is essential in helping our future population appreciate and respect our precious natural resources.
