My second graders are on their individual Chromebooks many times throughout the day. During our Reading Workshop time, these 7 and 8 year olds can be found researching facts on Pebblego, reading books online on Epic, or even creating Google Slides on topics important to our 2nd grade curriculum standards. They navigate to these various sites through our Google Classroom. They also enjoy practicing their math facts on XtraMath, Prodigy, and Zearn.
The technology tools that I've requested are simply to make their experiences with their Chromebooks much easier for them. The glide pads are worn, and sometimes difficult to use. A mouse makes their navigation so much easier. Headphones also help with the noise level in the classroom, most especially when taking an assessment online.
The highlighters that I've requested will be useful when working in our new workbooks. Students are often asked to highlight or underline various parts of a story, vocabulary, or rhyming words.
