The use of Google Expeditions will help keep the school library relevant in an ever-changing way of how students access information. Students will be excited to use virtual reality that simulates learning experiences from the classroom. This dynamic delivery of content instruction is more effective when compared to the traditional teacher lecture. Its interactivity keeps students engaged and the headsets keep students focused, away from distractions, which leads to increased understanding and strengthens knowledge retention. Additionally, as a 3D visual education tool, it breaks down language barriers for students acquiring English.
As the school librarian, I collaborate with content teachers to provide instructional support; using Google Expeditions in a rotating learning center will help improve learning and ultimately test scores. Small groups will rotate weekly through this center which will be tied to curriculum content.
This digital tool empowers students to take an active role in their learning and helps them achieve their ultimate learning goal of attending university by improved learning. Help our school library provide equitable access to an emerging 21st Century education tool that can be integrated across content areas for all students, especially our Hispanic students.
