The mats will be mounted on the wall will be used for our Sensory Room, along with foam mats as flooring to prevent any injuries and bounce balls to release any anxieties. As a district, we are in a financial crisis and budget cuts have affected our abilities to purchase resources needed to enhance and develop a Sensory Room for our Autism rooms. Autistic children get overwhelmed, overstimulated and usually unable to express distress due to some of them being non-verbal, we need a safe, quiet haven to go to and use as a Calming area then given time to regroup to express our thoughts, feelings/emotions or frustrations and funding for this project will not only help my classroom but other autism classroom and their students.
