My project includes selected sensory tools that will be used to calm and refocus students who require extra stimuli to focus on a given task. These tools will also benefit those students who struggle with anxiety and need extra outward stimuli to change their mindset. The tools will be provided as a resource to all k-5 teachers for academic and/or behavioral intervention.
Sensory overload can be a tremendous hinderance for our students, so our desire is to meet the needs of the whole student in order to encourage academic growth.
The use of sensory tools (ie wobble stools, kick bands, and fidgets) have shown to provide enough repeated sensory input in order for a student's brain to be able to focus on a task, such as an academic assignment, listening and following a verbal instruction, or stopping a distracting behavior.
