Students love movement activities in the music classroom. I strive to create and employ activities that emphasize that the body is capable of motion which requires energy, uses space, and takes time.
Scarves and stick ribbons enhance and exaggerate motions, enabling awareness of direction, level, range, energy, and developing expression in movement. The students' movements become more fluid, and their ability to create movement to match a mood, music, word, or story line develops to proficiency. The students use this process to develop and create their own music, dance, and song based on a book, folk tale, or folk song.
