All students deserve the opportunity to be swept away on an adventure and to get away from home circumstances. By providing the community book houses in run-down communities near our school, allows for this to happen. We are working with students k-6 for these opportunities. We will follow the same idea as others with take a book and leave a book.
The books that have been requested are from all genres and will help provide the needed escape for our younger youth k-6 and encourage the importance of reading for fun and how it relates to your social and emotional stability. Stability, adaptability, communication, digital fluency, communication, diversity, empathy, resilience, collaboration, Analysis and solution, and data collection are 21st-century skills that my students are learning about. They have traced these skills back to early reading opportunities given at school. Several students discovered the major connection to their emotional health as well and how excited they were when they started reading their childhood favorite classics.
By engaging in this community project, my high school students are eager to give back to the future youth and encourage the love for reading knowing that there are important skills to learn in their future and it needs to start k-6.
