Flexible Seating will encourage my students to be more responsible and respectful by stimulating their active bodies and allowing their minds to focus on learning. My classroom will become a more active, enthusiastic and relaxed place for students to acquire new knowledge.
Our mission, at my school, is to achieve lifelong learning by exploring education that is anchored in excellence. Flexible seating allows students opportunities to be responsible, by completing tasks and being respectful, by keeping a calm learning environment for their peers. As students show responsibility and respectfulness throughout the day, I will reward students with HERO points, which will be redeemed either in the classroom, school stores, or at school-wide events.
Having flexible seating in our classroom will increase the possibility of our students staying engaged in learning by stimulating their sense of touch and need for movement, finding the right position to stay focused and avoiding getting distracted. Also, staying calm when experiencing challenges, being more productive throughout the day, and maintaining their attention for longer periods of time (especially for students who have to learning challenges (IEPs), been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD, or have a 504 plan in place). I currently have students with IEPs, 504s and other learning needs.
