We spend a big part of our days meeting in our learning community on our carpet. Our carpet functions as our morning circle meeting space, as well as our space for learning with partners, and in small groups. When it is choice time, we use our carpet for building on and during snack, it is our gathering space as well. Our carpet centralizes our room and is where we consistently come back together. The carpet we have now is from a years ago teacher who didn't want to take it with them. It is ratty and stained and ready to be replaced.
The new carpet that we are requesting also sections off space for individuals. We are working on keeping our hands to ourselves and having spaces drawn into the carpet will assist us in this endeavor.
