As children role play together, they take turns, cooperate and socialize. Children that are provided the opportunity to use their imaginations become great problem solvers as adults. Also, studies have linked role-playing to empathy. Children who engaged in role playing were more skilled in judging how others might feel than those who didn't.
As children substitute various clothes and objects symbolically as they play, this is a precursor to all later academic experiences, like reading, writing, and math.
