Books are a window to the world. They entertain, inspire, and excite. Putting a beautiful book into the hands of a child can open up their eyes and minds to new thoughts and feelings.
Children with significant cognitive and behavior issues often have limited access to beautiful, quality books. In my current classroom almost all of the books have paper pages. As hard as we try, books have pages bent and torn on a daily basis, so much so that we have to keep the CHILDREN'S BOOKS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN! What is wrong with this picture?
I have started building a library of beautiful and appropriate board books for my classroom so that we can allow books to be right where they belong...in the hands of the children.
I would love to build a library of books to fill our shelves, to rotate into our story time, and best of all to be placed into the hands of my students so they can feel the thrill of holding a book, turning the pages and discovering new ideas through text and illustrations.
