Through the innovative SnowSchool program, our four 5th grade classes will travel by bus to our local ski hill, 20 miles away. While en route, students will participate in several brief learning sessions to prepare them for the day's topics. Upon arrival at Bogus Basin, students will snowshoe through the winter landscape to engage in professionally-led scientific activities. They will learn about snow pack, the water cycle, winter ecology, and how animals have adapted to thrive in harsh conditions.
There is no better way to introduce students to scientific inquiry than hands-on discovery and experiential learning.
This trek will kickstart curiosity and remind students that real-world application of their accumulated knowledge is the ultimate goal of education. While recalling this trip, children, not their parents or their teachers, will be the ones proclaiming that "learning is fun!" Funding from Ðǿմ«Ã½.org does more than just make the day possible, it transforms students' perception for a lifetime.
