These materials make a different because it allows for all students to see and understand directions more clearly. Kindergartners are still learning to read and need a lot of teacher guidance and visual cues. With this tool we can project their workbook pages, science projects, pages from a classroom book and even math manipulatives.
My classroom also has English language learners that would benefit greatly from having that extra visual support. Moreover, visual support enriches learning for all students! In math I can show my cubes under the document camera to help "illustrate" my point and also show them what they need to do to figure our their math problems.
Without it, a teacher can spend valuable time repeating instructions and modeling while circulating around the room. This allows for more time focused on observations, feedback and making small groups that need some extra support.
