I want to turn my classroom into a garden. In doing this, my students will be able to have a nature experience by which they learn about different plants and the responsibilities that come with gardening. Additionally, this project will help to fund an aquaponics system by which water from the fish tank is recycled to grow plants. My hope is that this will teach students the value of fresh food and sustainability.
Not only will this project target language, communication, and life skills; this project aims to instill responsibility and empathy in my students as they learn to care for living things and the environment.
Weekly lesson plans will target speech and language skills within the context of garden maintenance and preparation as well as animal care.
In a fast-paced technological world, it is now more than ever that these students need hands-on, real life, practical activities and lessons. Your contributions will allow them the opportunity to see first hand how their food grows and how our actions affect the world around us.
