Educators have been well aware for years that allowing students silent time to read on their own, voluntarily (i.e. no test) increases their literary development. Recently, we have also studied these affects on Second Languages and find the same result! Reading for fun can develop their literary skills in the second language as well!
I want to begin a Free-Voluntary Reading (FVR) library in my German classroom to allow my students time, a few times a week, to just read! I'm hoping to pick choices of texts that students will find interest in, including magazines in the target language! I've heard numerous success stories and want my students to join that list!
