The materials purchased using the grant will allow the students to set up a coffee shop location where they can practice the real life job skills. These skills include the use of a cash register, following directions, communication with coworkers and employers, team work, customer service, making change, and problem solving. While there are only 15 students in my class, the coffee shop will also provide them with the opportunity to work with the general education population and staff.
A student run coffee shop will allow the students an opportunity to work on basic employment skills that can be documented on their resume and later transferred to post secondary employment situations.
