Drugs and alcohol are realities in our school. My 7th and 8th grade students know family or friends who are incarcerated, addicted, separated from their families or no longer living due to their choices regarding drug and alcohol use.
My students will experience impaired "driving" on a tricycle wearing "drunk" goggles. They will "drive" around cones, walk a line and experience impaired vision in the safety of our classroom.
While students are negotiating the visual deficits of impairment, we will discuss the other realities of alcohol and drug use; the impact they have on one's physical health, emotional wellbeing, family dynamics, and work and earning stability.
