My EL students are low in reading, and many of their parents cannot read or speak English. Parents have expressed the need for bilingual books so that they can read to their children and have the children read with them in English. Additionally, being literate in both languages is very powerful and enhances learning and comprehension. The bilingual dictionaries will also help with comprehension. My plan is to have a check out system so that students can borrow the books to read with their parents. They can also borrow the dictionaries if they are working on a project and need support with definitions. This will empower students and parents!
