Being able to use iPads in the classroom would transform the way we are using technology. With 1st grade students, it becomes complicated to use Chromebooks for specific activities. We love to use SeeSaw and QR codes to drive instruction and the "selfie" camera is difficult to use for 1st grade students.
We would use iPads to encourage collaboration through making group videos and completing projects in which the flexibility of moving around with an iPad is necessary. Using iPads would allow my students to record their work, take pictures of activities, and record themselves learning new materials to share with families at home.
My students show a desire to explore new topics through research and the use of an iPad would allow me to facilitate thoughtful, and safe ways for them to search the web through the use of QR codes. Using QR codes on an iPad allows the student to become an independent learner who is responsible and accountable for their learning each day at school. This gives each student ownership over their learning each day.
