The goal for this project is to introduce my students, who in most cases do not know what they want to do upon graduation and are limited in their options due to their economic make-up, to a new and exciting world of Mechanical Repair. These tools will allow my students to learn a new trade and perhaps spark a flame that was never there or explore a sense of curiosity they may have. Many of my kids love tinkering at home but simply do not have the tools to learn nor the resources to acquire them. These sets will be used to dismantle, examine, and reassemble true auto and recreational mechanical parts.
At the moment, I have already acquired some car and motorcycle parts that will be used to educate my students in the workings of internal combustion motors, as well as, various other parts of a car such as brakes and suspension. Hopefully, this will lead some of them to further their knowledge at a trade school such as BOCES. All of them are excited to get this program rolling and the skills they will learn will stay with them forever. Skills such as, what tools are, what tools are required for what job, how to use them properly and safely, and most of all TEAMWORK!!! They will work within 3 groups and learn to depend on each other when it comes to problem-solving and sharing.
