Kids love using high quality markers. It's just not something that we can order on a regular basis. I've tried "cheaper" markers in the past, but the result has not been as good, or the product stops writing very quickly.
Flair pens are much more exciting to use for illustrating than a pencil, and the quality of the finished product is lovely. Due to our budget, I can't afford to purchase these sturdy markers with our regular school budget, although I love them, and the kids do too!
