My students love to role-play in my drama center. They act out life experiences and build their imagination playing with their peers. My students come from diverse backgrounds and need to see people that represent them in my classroom. The block people of all different cultures will help them learn about others differences and similarities. Block play and doll house play are important tools to help children develop communication skills and learn how to cooperate with others.
Our classroom has a dollhouse but we were lacking adequate furniture and people for it. We would like to expand our drama area with a farmhouse and animals to build on students shared experiences living in Oklahoma seeing farms and farm animals. This will help my students with expanding their language skills with each other through play.
I’ve added a farm theme box so I can teach them more about farms and read them farm stories they can act out in the new farm drama center. My hope is this will help them with communication skills lacking since Covid pandemic started. They are not just playing in the drama center they are learning communication skills, self-regulation, literacy, and cooperation during drama play.
