Second grade students benefit greatly from having literature read to them. Listening centers are a developmentally appropriate way to support students fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Listening to an audio book will allow students to partake in literature that may be above their current reading level. In addition, listening to reading in the classroom is a sheer pleasure for second graders.
Utilizing a listening center will build students' confidence as readers and allow the students to have valuable conversations with peers to enhance learning. This listening center will be one component of our readers' workshop. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of audio books on a daily basis.
