Novel studies in our intensive reading classes aren't always based on the most exciting or culturally relevant books. My intent is for our students to read a high interest novel that will turn them on to reading and keep them coming back for more.
This well-written and critically acclaimed book fits the bill for what my students need. It is high interest, humorous, and teaches about a time in history of which my students may be unaware. It is also structured in such a way that plot, setting, characterization, and other skills are easily taught. Our students will absolutely love it!
