I am building a library of STEM materials for the 26 students in my class. My goal is to foster creativity, encourage deeper thinking, problem solving skills, and build a strong math and science sense with students. These materials will allow students to collaborate to make decisions together.
Focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics will encourage students to create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember as they collaborate. Engaging together supports Social Emotional Learning objectives as well.
Students will use the materials during small group lessons, flexible seating time, and student choice activities to build bridges, buildings, and many other structures that solve modern day problems. They will test strength, durability, and practicality of their structures. Students will use the kits often during science, math, indoor recess, and Friday fun period. I cannot wait to see the "light bulbs" shine as my students build, think, and create!
