Graphing calculators help prepare students for the SAT and ACT test. Within my urban classroom not all students have the financial ability to purchase a calculator and will only be able to view another student use the device. The batteries purchased with this project will supply a calculator for every student in class. ALL students will have immediate access to technology to further their mathematical development for higher education.
Graphing calculators are recommended by the National Standards in Mathematics in Algebra 2 and has a proven positive effect on student performance.
The lower level students can leap hurdles using the calculator to aid in fraction computation to reach the higher level concepts. All students can make connections among different representations of mathematical models. Users can quickly maneuver among tabular, graphical, and algebraic forms. Finally graphing calculators permit the creation of several types of best-fitting regression models allowing the capability of data analysis to become integrated within the traditional curriculum.
