Over the last few months, the lack of access to equipment for athletes at our school has been highlighted in news stories throughout Austin. We want to reverse this image and begin giving our student-athletes- who come from low income families and have so many challenges outside of school- adequate materials to help them build and hone their skills and see greater success on the field and track.
The best and most literal way we can think of to do this is to give them a fresh start and new starting blocks for our 2020 track season. Starting blocks and the ability to access and train on them have a large impact on an athlete's ability to feel confident in their skill and drive to success throughout their races. With new starting blocks, students will be able to practice these skills daily and approach races with enthusiasm instead of anxiety.
