My students are from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and bring a rich life experience with them but most often are playing catch up to add the English language and life experience exposure to enhance their learning. In our elementary school most are on free or reduced lunch and attend many tutoring sessions to catch up on skill deficits.
Overall my students are very loving, kind hearted and want to please the adults at school. They are very pleased when they make their teachers happy. Isn't that what they all look for? It takes very little to get them excited and they are generally very good at following the class and school rules and guidelines.
Our students come from families of very hard working parents and most get to school by bus because we are located just outside of a very busy city. As a school we are working to engage and involve parents increasingly as they are also often learning English as well.
The school is a blessing to work at.
