So much of the curriculum of our school is delivered via documents on Chromebooks. Students' experiences with reading is becoming text on a screen vs holding and interacting with a physical book. Our curriculum uses two rich texts that bring important ideas about the human experience and how people interpret and forge relationships and uses 2 novels as a read-aloud for classes. (City of Ember and Fish in a Tree) Unfortunately we do not have the funds to allow for students to have a copy of of their own book. Though it is the digital age and delivering content is easier via this venue - nothing is better than a student having their own book - to hold- and explore- to flip pages back and forth and make their own meaning as they read.
