My students are given many engineering challenges throughout the year that require them to build (ie. a solar-powered house) using cardboard. Currently, as the teacher, I cut all of the cardboard using a boxcutter. I would love for the students to take more ownership of their project by being able to safely cut the cardboard on their own using the Canary cutters. I would still be able to assist students with more intricate cuts using the E-Acto knives and self-healing mats to protect our tables.
By donating to our project, you will not only help promote STEM education but perseverance and teamwork in my students. My students often hit a roadblock when they don't understand something the first time, and engineering requires them to keep going back to the drawing board to try again. Having to do things over, or fix problems that arise, as well as work in a group are frustrations students need to learn to manage in order to succeed in the real world.
