Many students experience difficulties pinpointing their current struggles, let alone expressing themselves clearly. Having a variety of tools such as books, games, and activities not only allows them to understand their own emotions, but also helps them understand that there are ways to work through them.
My students get so excited when they are able overcome a problem or manage a difficult situation using what we have learned together.
Sometimes, having someone listen is all they need. Other times, a hands on activity is more effective. It depends on the current need of the student; the more tools I can offer during our time together, the better!
