My students are hard working and very creative artists in the making. Our school is a title 1 school. Many of our students are economically disadvantaged. They can not afford the one supply I require from students who take art. Not only can they not afford a sketch book, there is no place to buy one in this town. Additionally, many families do not have vehicles to use in traveling to the next town to buy art supplies.
We use sketchbooks on a daily basis and many students do not have one. They are using loose notebook paper stapled together. This decreases both motivation and enjoyment of creating daily drawings. It makes it hard to keep a portfolio of sketches when drawings are loose on mismatched paper.
