Every month, in 4th grade, I ask my students to read a book from a different genre. This gets them into a variety of books, widens their literary horizons & improves their reading. I have dozens of books for them to choose from in our classroom library and hundreds of books for them to choose from in our school library, but never enough age appropriate autobiographies. I've been buying some with my own money, so I now have 5 in my classroom library. Our school library has shelves full of biographies, but only 4 autobiographies. So, my 45 students have to take turns with those 9 books, or find their own somewhere else.
I can't guarantee that all my students can get to the community library or buy a book, So I'd like to use $250 to buy 34 Autobiographies from Amazon. That way I'd have enough for everyone. Those 35 books have a wide range in reading levels and topics. My students could read the words of incredible people like Jane Goodall, Rosa Parks, astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Leland Melvin & John Kelly, authors Gary Paulsen & Roald Dahl, sports icons Mo'en Davis & Gabby Douglas, inspiring teenagers Malala Yousafzai & Jade Hamiester.
