The aerobic steps that I am requesting will help my students to improve their balance, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness. My students enjoy being active, and aerobic dance is their favorite activity. However, some of my students require a lot of motivation and encouragement to participate, and it is important to provide these students with a variety of equipment to help increase their interest in the activity.
Step aerobics is a fun, interactive way to work on fitness while helping the students to be more engaged and motivated to participate. Students with disabilities tend to have poor or delayed motor skills which results in them being less physically active than their general education peers, and this increases their chance of being overweight and having health problems later in life. By providing these students with challenging physical activities that they can be successful in it helps to improve their overall health while increasing their independence, attention span, and self-esteem.
