Orton-Gillingham is a systematic, explicit teaching technique that builds decoding knowledge in all students. Through the use of multi-sensory tools, students will connect letter sounds kinesthetically to the matching grapheme and become decoders and encoders of words. Red words, known as high-frequency words, will be "tapped" into their long-term memory through nerve endings on their finger-tips.
A multi-sensory approach to decoding connects learning into students' long term memory.
By implementing a multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham program, I will be able to reach all learners within the classroom and build a foundation for reading and writing success. The goal is that all first graders will leave the class at grade level.
