My students come from a variety of backgrounds and languages. I find that my students need exposure to many things as their background knowledge is lacking due to cultural or language barriers. My student population is 85% poverty and 70% of our population is English Language Learners. Our students have emotional and social issues due to language, poverty and cultural barriers. Science is a way to develop language with my students and make connections with them. My students enjoy experiencing new things in their learning and this creates a sense of wonder that continues on through their schooling.
