This year, GWCES is starting a Harry Potter book club. This club meets every Tuesday after school, for one hour. We have started with the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Our students struggle in the area of reading comprehension and reading for fluency. This club was started to provide those students with an opportunity to read interesting literature outside of class, improve their literacy skills, potentially raise their Lexile levels, and provide a magical and creative environment for learning.
With our book club, we are providing an amazing opportunity for our students to improve their education on their own time and in a fun way. So far, we already have thirty-one students committed to the book club. To make this as successful as possible, we need many books and incentives to keep the students interested. Our intention is to finish on book three and send the students with their own copy of book four to have and continue their journey through the series. Each opportunity the book holds; for wands, chocolate frogs, house sorting, etc, we are making these activities possible for them to experience. Currently, all expenses of books, and activities, have been provided from myself and other teachers. If you feel lead, we need your help in providing more books to continue the book club through the end of the year. We look forward yo your participation in our Harry Potter Book Club.
