The transition from Pre-K to kindergarten is tough on any student, but imagine English not being your first language. As most of my students are language learners, I believe providing them a space to engage with content through exploratory play and scientific discovery will benefit them academically in developmentally and linguistically appropriate ways.
The light table will also create a space for conversation and language development as students innovate and create. Navigating conflicts and figuring out how to share develops students’ conversation and language skills, which are most often developed during play and peer-to-peer interactions for kindergarten-aged students.
The light table will also be able to assist students who struggle with fine motor skills. While exploring and manipulating these materials, our students will develop the fine motor skills needed for self-help skills. Our students are living in a time when competency in science, math, and technology is critical. These materials will increase their interest in all! The light tables will provide endless opportunities for open ended activities to inspire life long learning!
