Support Ms. B's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
I have been slowly trying to build my classroom library by myself and with the support of other teachers in my building. Unfortunately for the students in my reading classes, many of the books available in the library are well above their reading ability. One of my biggest goals and hopes for my students is that they find one book that they WANT to read and enjoy reading. My goal is to fill my classroom with books of varying levels to accommodate all of my students regardless of what "grade" they are reading at.
For most of my students, this is their opportunity to change their relationship with reading. While my school as a whole is working on creating a community of readers, the students in my classroom have the greatest struggles when it comes to achieving that goal. Before they can join the community of readers, they first have to better their reading skills. While reading for fun is one of my major goals, my primary goal is to make sure that my students exit my class with the ability to access the rest of their education. If they cannot read grade-level materials, they will not be able to learn the materials and skills necessary for them to graduate high school.
