Students in my classroom benefit from flexible learning and comfortable routines where they can learn best and feel successful. At times their motivation levels and engagement towards school and academics effect me because I strive on positivity and all I want to do is help change their perspective and create a sense of community in the classroom that gives students opportunities and choices that will help them.
In my classroom I encourage independence, self awareness and student ownership through student choice. When I give students more choices I believe it boosts their motivation and engagement. I promote classroom positivity and a growth mindset. My room involves lots of movement such as centers, rotations, group activities, team building, and independent time. These classroom materials will benefit my students by giving them the power to choose, to be themselves, and to focus on their work in a space that they are the most comfortable in. To me flexible seating is about more than simply having a variety of different, fun seats in the classroom. It’s about utilizing student voice, heightening collaborative learning, and prioritizing students’ needs concerning the environment in which they learn.
