We read the classics! This book is a favorite among my upper elementary students! Our books are so old they are falling apart! We desperately need a new set so I can continue to share this wonderful book.
Both fifth and sixth graders use this book to learn about another part of the country and to relate the perils of adolescents to their own lives. Every student, no matter their background knowledge, finds something they relate to when reading Where the Red Fern Grows. We make wonderful end of the novel projects and come up with writing topics to further our understanding and reflections.
